Learn to read with ‘abc & me’

I offer one-to-one tutoring specifically aimed at helping to teach children to read using synthetic phonics.

Unlike most nursery and primary schools, I use a variety of methods and materials to get the best out of each child rather than sticking rigidly to one method, which may not suit his/her style of learning.

I believe in mastering the basics of decoding letter sounds in order to give a solid foundation for the child but also in encouraging the child to blend sounds and to begin reading early on, so that the child gains confidence and feels a sense of achievement.

The aim is to make children want to read through encouragement and a feeling of success.  However, it is important that the child understands what he/she is reading so comprehension is also an important aspect, as it is not good reading words without understanding the meaning behind them.
